Ministry Summary
MINISTRIES AT MOUNT OF OLIVES:

Family Ministries:
  • Family Ministries - Counseling Services
  • MOP'S - a program for Mothers of Preschoolers that meets every other Friday morning for breakfast, study and fellowship.  Click on MOPS for their website and additional information.
  • MOPS Bible Study - Meets on the opposite Fridays to  main MOPS meetings in Room A of New Creation Center.
Caring and Sharing Ministries:

  • Stephen Ministry
  • Prayer Ministry - Meets throughout the month.  Prayer Gathering in the Worship Center last Sunday of each month at Noon.
  • Purls from the Heart  - Groups knits prayer shawls and other items for homebound and cancer support groups in Orange County and children in the hospital.
  • Cancer Support - Meets the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30pm in the Adult Day Care Center.
  • Grief SHARE -  a special 13-week seminar/support group for people grieving the loss of someone close.  It’s a place where those grieving can be around people who understand how they feel and the pain of their loss.
Elder Care Ministries:
  • Adult Day Care - program consists of programs and activities to encourage interaction, exercise, arts & crafts, music and more for those suffering from memory impairment.
  • Homebound  - A ministry made up of people trained to visit those unable to attend Church on a regular basis who would like a visit from a member of the Church. The visitors contact homebound members on a regular schedule, sharing prayer, scripture and a time of fellowship with them.


Worship and Performance Ministries:

  • Arts Alive - is a fine arts school offering music lessons and STAR PAK Children's Theater.  There will be a STAR PAK Summer Camp in August 2010.
  • Chancel Choir - Adult Choir, practices on Thursdays at 7:30pm in the Choir Room.  Performs during the 8:30am CORNERSTONE service.
  • Handbell Ensemble - Adult performance group, practices on Thursdays at 6:30pm in the Choir Room
  • Joysong/JR/Joy Bells - Children's choirs that traditionally meet on Mondays during the school year.
  • Streetcorner Symphony - Young adult accapella choir group.
  • Tech Support/Lighting and Sound- Team in charge or sound and lighting in the Worship Center for services and special events.
  • Tech Support/Video - Team in charge of all video elements in the Worship Center.  Also, edits/produces Strength for Today TV/Cable programming.
Worship Service Ministries:

  • Ushers - Teams work in one month cycles with each team working approximately every 3 month.
  • HOST Ministry - Teams work 1 month cycles at one service.
  • Altar Guild - Group assists in adminstering Holy Communion and changing the altar vestments.  This group also decorates the Worship Center for Christmas and Easter.
  • Lay Readers - Scripture readings done during the 8:30am service.
Outreach and Events

  • Adopt an Angel - Program coincides with the Alternative Christmas Fair.  Families are adopted through the Southwest Community Center in Santa Ana.  Donations are collected at MOO and then distributed in December to the families.
  • Alternative Christmas Fair - This event happens the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving in the Courtyard at MOO.  Event provides creative gift giving options for the holidays like Heifer Foundation, Habitiat for Humanity gifts and more.
  • Drive Thru Nativity - A live actor and animal protrayal of Christ's birth, 2nd weekend in December on Friday and Saturday from 6-10pm.   
  • Outreach Event Team - committee responsible for promoting MOO through advertising, print, cable and radio media. 

Youth & Childrens Ministries

  • First Communion - a class for children in 5th grade.  Classes are held in January.
  • Kid's City Sundays - available during all services on Sunday mornings for children ages 3 (potty trained) through 5th grade. 
  • Kid's City Kid's Club - Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm in the NCC for children ages 3 (potty trained) through 5th grade. Dinner is at 5:30, suggested donation $3/child.  Program/education from 6:00-7:30pm.
  • Robert H. Lange Preschool - Joan Lundbohm, Director, (949) 837-2500
  • Vacation Bible School - 2 weeks in July.  Choose 1 week to attend.  Cost is $25/child.  Registration begins during the Easter Fair, the Saturday before Easter Sunday.
  • Summer Sports Camp - 1 week in July.  Can be done in addition to Vacation Bible School or independently.  Cost is $25/child.
  • R.O.C.K.  - Program and activities for kids ages 6th grade through 12th grade.  Click on link to view website and for complete information.
Community and Global Ministries:

  • Southwest Community Center (Santa Ana Kitchen) - 4th Thursday of each month, MOO members take donations to Kitchen.  Sign up for donations needed in the Worship Center on Sundays.
  • Christ's Hope - Namibia, Africa - Support of an orphanage for children who are without parents due to AIDS.  Youth Mission Team traveling Summer 2010.
  • SHARE (Sharing His Abundant Resources Every Day) - 1st Sunday of the month a canned or non-perishable food drive benefitting South County Outreach in Lake Forest. 
  • Lay Chaplain Ministry - Freedom Village - Sunday mornings services done by lay ministry
  • Treasure Box - Feed a family of 4 for 1 week - cost $30.  Boxes can be ordered until approximately the 10th of each month and pick up is typically the last Saturday of the month in the main parking lot.  Boxes of food are frozen.
Church Community Ministries:

              Men's Ministries
  • Men's Breakfast - Meets the 3rd Wednesday morning of every month at 6:30am in the New Creation Center for a delicious breakfast and Bible Study.
  • Men's Retreat - Happens each year in the Spring.
  • The Edge - This group is for men who are struggling with work, family, home life or other trials in their lives.  Meets every Tuesday from 7-9pm in the Adult Day Care Center.
  • Men's Bible Study Group - Meets the 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month in Room A of the New Creation Center from 7-8:30pm. 
Women's Ministries
  • W!  - Meets every other month on the 4th Tuesday for a guest speaker and service project. Next event is May 25 at 7pm. 
  • Journey - A women's Bible Study group that meets every Tuesday but W! event evenings from 7-8:30pm in the New Creation Center.
  • Women's Retreat - Typically happens every Fall and is a 3 day retreat.
  • Women's Book Club - Meets the last Monday of each month from7-8:30pm.  Meets away from Mount of Olives at various homes and locations.
Adult Education
  • "Sack Lunch" Bible Study - Meets every Wednesday during the school year (when preschool is in session) from 11:30-12:30 in the HUB Coffeehouse/Bookstore 
  • Alpha and Bethel Bible Studies - starting in September 2010 on Monday evenings in the Choir Room
  • Sunday Adult Education - Meets in preschool rooms 3 & 4 during the 9:45am service.
  • Reasons to Believe (Apologetics) - Meets the 1st Tuesday of the month from 7-8:30pm in the Choir Room.
  • Spiritual Gifts - Assessment given during New Connections class and other times during the year to determine what type of ministry best suits a person's gifts. 
  • Sharing God's Love - Learn to share God's love more effectively with those around you.  This is a 4 week class on Sundays from 12:15-1:45pm.
Special Interests
  • Quilters - Meets 2nd & 4th Monday of  each month in Room D of the New Creation Center.
  • Library - open every Sunday morning
  • Stretch and Pray - Wednesdays from 9:15am - 10:45am in the R.O.C.K.
  • Cursillo - a 3 day retreat.  Must be a Lutheran member and have a sponsor.  Contact Maria in the Church Office for information or applications available on the information table Sunday mornings.
  • Club 55 - Fellowship group for adults ages 55+.  Gatherings include speakers, lunch and special event outings.
  • Tuesday Night Work Party - Group meets every Tuesday at 6:30pm to complete work projects around the Mount of Olives Campus.
  • Jail Ministry - Group conducts a monthly praise service at local jails for inmates to spread the love and word of God.
